Grinding stones
Grinding stones are flat, cylindrical shaped abrasive bodies composed of two main elements: the abrasive particles and the binder that holds them together. The binder used for these stones is ceramic-based, ensuring a high tensile breaking strength, stability at temperature variations and a high porosity. The working peripheral speed is limited to 30-35 m/s. Stone hardness and bond strength represent the resistance to the removal and loss of the abrasive grains from its surface, under the action of external forces. The recommended grinding stones for the sharpening of band saw blades are those with a medium or low hardness to avoid the out burning of teeth profile surfaces.
The marketed grinding stones come with K, N hardness grade values.
For bandsaw blades the recommended porosity of the stones varies between 60 and 80.
