Diamond discs
Diamond discs are used for the sharpening of tipped tools, especially of carbide tipped circular saw blades. They feature a diamond band layer applied on a disc shaped base. The base is made of aluminium in different forms and with various diameters. The diamond layer consists from a mixture of fine diamond grains bond together with a specific binder, that sets and retains the particles during the sharpening process. The used “R” symbolized binder is of organic resinoid type.
The relation between the volume of the contained diamond and the total volume of the diamond band gives the diamond concentration. For organic-resinoid type binders the diamond concentration is of 75, meaning 3,3 carats/cm³.
The size of the abrasive grains gives the granulation, simbolyzed with a “D” letter. This is chosen according to the desired quality of the final surface after sharpening. The used granulation is D91 for coarse grind sharpening and D64 for finishing.
The shape and size of the diamond layer is chosen according to the specific operation.
